Bhubaneswar: Oct 6 (UNI) For the first time the VVPAT will be used during the by poll in Bijepur Assembly seat in Odisha, State Chief Electoral Officer D N Gupta said. Mr.Gupta said although the Election Commission is yet to announce the notification for the by poll in Bijepur Assembly seat, the state is prepared to use the VVPAT along with the EVM machine.
He said the dates for the Bijepur by poll would be decided after a clearance from the Odisha High court where a election case is pending. The Bijepur Assembly seat will go for a by poll following the demise of sitting Congress MLA Subal Sahu. The Chief Electoral Officer said the VVPAT will be used in all the booths of the Bijepur Assembly seat.
Meanwhile, in another development the State Election Commission (SEC) has asked the Odisha government to complete ward delimitation of the Urban bodies by January 2018. In a letter to the Urban Development department, SEC Secretary RN Sahu said the
Commission is prepared to conduct the election to 93 Urban Local bodies and three Municipal Corporation.
In case of any irregularities or suspicion, a concerned candidate or their representative can register complaint and it can be verified from the slip. The data can also be stored for a good number of days,” said Gupta

Gupta further informed that the Bijepur bypoll matter is sub judice in Orissa High Court and the commission is waiting for necessary orders.
“Unless all the election petitions before the HC or SC are settled, the election commission cannot take any decision,” he added.
