Bhubaneswar: Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik was today admitted to a hospital following an injury after a scuffle with an unidentified youth at the ongoing International Sand Art Festival in Chandrabhaga in Puri district.
Pattnaik was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Puri for treatment following the incident.
Speaking to media persons, Pattnaik said, “A local youth approached me to take selfie and then twisted my hand while attempting to snatch my wristwatch in the crowd”.
“When I tried to defend myself, the miscreant fled from the spot,” he added.
Soon after the scuffle, the sand artist complained severe pain in his right hand and he was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital of Puri.
On Friday, the five-day long annual Konark festival began near the world famous Sun Temple of Konark. Coinciding with the dance festival, International Sand Art Festival commenced at Chandrabhaga beach in Konark.
The newspaper added that despite many attempts made by Pattnaik’s students and friends, the miscreant could not be found.
Social media, meanwhile, erupted in a collective message of concern, with people wishing a speedy recovery to the sand-artist, and hoping that the miscreant in question is found and dealt with effectively.

The five-day-long festival was inaugurated at the beach near the Sun Temple in Konark and was organised by the state department of tourism, reports TOI. Pattnaik is also the brand ambassador of the festival, which has seen over 70 participants from countries such as Germany, Mexico, Ghana, Singapore, Canada, Spain, Sri Lanka, Russia and India present at the festival to showcase their art, reports DNA.
Patnaik, who is the brand ambassador of the five-day long International Sand Art Festival inaugurated on December 1 at Chandrabhaga beach expressed disappointment over the incident.
More than 70 artist and many among them internationals are participating in the ongoing sand art festival.
