Rayagada: Three pregnant tribal women, in three separate incidents, undergoing labour pain were carried on cots to the Kalyansinghpur hospital in Rayagada hospital as ambulance failed to reach their village due to unavailability of motroable road.
Aleam Sikaka of Nisikhal, Sikaka Hudadi of Satlamba and Kadraka Sisari of Tengeneli village of Kalyansinghpur experienced labour pains today morning. However, the family members of the trio women carried them on cots to Kalyansinghpur hospital as ambulance could not reach their villages due to poor road connectivity.
The shameful incident occurred after the woman from Fakedi village under Kalyansinghpur block felt labour pain this morning. Finding that no ambulance was available to shift her to the nearby hospital, her family members made a carriage on their own using a bamboo stick and saree and carried the woman to Kalyansinghpur CHC on foot after crossing River Nagabali.
But all the efforts of the family member went in vein as the woman gave birth to a stillborn girl child on her way to the CHC.
Talking to media over the issue, an ASHA worker engaged at the CHC said despite her continuous efforts to make people aware on safe motherhood initiatives available at the health facility, villagers are bringing pregnant women to the hospital in time. They are bringing the pregnant women to the hospital only in emergency giving rise to this type of situation. The situation could have been averted had the woman been shifted to the CHC earlier, she said.
