Bhubaneswar: An early morning ride to his friend’s house turned tragic for a 28-year-old techie, who was stabbed to death by unidentified men near the chocolate factory on Tavarekere Main Road. The incident occurred in a packed residential area around 4 am on Monday in Madiwala police limits.
The deceased, a software engineer with Accenture – Pranay Mishra, was from Odisha. Sunday being a holiday, Pranay was at his friend’s room in Begur along with other college friends where all of them partied till 8 pm.
Around 8.30 pm, Pranay booked a cab to reach his house in Krishna Murthi Layout in Suddaguntepalya. He dropped his friend on the way before reaching home. Later at around 2.30 am, Pranay called up his girlfriend, who is also a techie and a resident of BTM Layout 2nd Stage, and informed her that he would be coming to her place.
Pranay left in his two-wheeler and before he could reach the destination, a few unidentified men stopped his bike and stabbed him twice in his stomach. Pranay died of excessive bleeding. Though it was initially suspected that robbers may have stabbed him after Pranay resisted their bid to rob him, the police have found all his belongings intact. But no valuables like mobile phone, money purse was taken by assailants. This has led to suspicion that the murder was over a love related matter.
The police have contacted the friends he met on Sunday and is scanning his call record details and also going through the CCTV footages to ascertain the identity of the assailants. However, a murder case has been registered and an investigation is on to find the motive behind the attack.
Sources said Pranay went to Bengaluru in 2014 after he completed B Tech in Computer Science from Trident Academy of Technology here. Meanwhile, his dead body has been flown back to the city.
