Malkangiri: One of the 12 Maoists, who were arrested yesterday by Malkangiri police, was found hanging today inside a bathroom on premises of the SP office today. He was identified as Soma Kabasi of Jandraguda village.
Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena informed while the police was taking the 12 Maoists to a court, Kabasi sought permission to go to the bathroom. He went inside and did not come out after a considerable time. Police personnel present there got suspicious and broke open the bathroom to find Kabasi attempting to hang with the help of a towel.
According to Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena, “Just before being forwarded to the judicial custody, on the pretext of attending nature’s call, one of the arrested Maoists went to the bathroom and tried to commit suicide. This was detected by the security personnel present there. They immediately rescued him and took him to the hospital. During treatment in hospital, he died.”
The deceased Maoists is identified as Suma Kabati from Kendraguda.
The arrests of the 12 Maoists was considered a major success for the Odisha police as they were all hardcore militia. They were arrested from their respective jungle dens and houses during a joint combing operation in Kalimela area, Tulsi area under Mathili PS and Nakakamudi area under Chitrakonda PS.
Out of the 12 arrested red rebels, five were reportedly forwarded to the court while the rest seven were under police custody and were being interrogated by the police.
The Maoists were arrested from their respective jungle dens and houses during joint combing operations in Kalimela, Mathili and Chitrakonda areas yesterday. Most of the arrested members of the outlawed group are said to be hardcore militias.
