Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Friday granted conditional bail to controversial self-styled godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul who has been languishing in Choudwar Circle Jail since August 2015 after being arrested by the Crime Branch from his Barimula Ashram in Kendrapada district.
The then Distric Superintendent of police(SP) S Gajbhiye was suspended by the Home Department for allegedly showing favour to Sarathi and conducting lathi charge on people who were protesting outside the self-proclaimed Godman’s Barimula ashram. Gajbhiye’s suspension was revoked recently
As per the condition laid down by the High Court, he is debarred from his pet Barimula Ashram as well as Kendrapada. In case of his release, his followers cannot take out any processions or revelling rally. He has to fully cooperate with the investigation agency whenever warranted without any fail. He should give prior information to the investigating officers about his present address after being released from jail.
The High Court had rejected Sarathi’s bail plea on an earlier occasion in the blackmailing and sexual exploitation case filed against him by a woman medico in January this year. The Godman was caught on camera with the medical student while on a visit to Hyderabad in 2015.
