Bhubaneswar: Denizens can now enjoy fish delicacies at various places across the city.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated fleet of food trucks under the banner of ‘Fish on Wheels’. These trucks will move in the city from 9am to 10pm.
Besides, the CM also inaugurated an ultra-modern Chilika Fresh outlet at Kharvela Nagar, where customers can get good quality fish, prawn, shrimp, lobster and dry fish. As many as 12 such outlets have also been opened jointly by Odisha government and Falcon Marine on Tuesday while 14 more will be open shortly in different localities of the city.
The state government has planned to open 100 more Chilika Fresh outlets in different cities including Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Bhadrak, Jeypore, Baripada and Bhawanipatna. “The aim of the initiative is to give fresh and quality fishes to the consumers at a fair price and to help fishermen to sell their products directly in the market and not through any middlemen,” said CMD of Falcon Marines, Tara Patnaik.
Sources said, currently the state produces around 6 lakh metric tonnes of fish including 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of inland fish. The state imports around 40,000 tonnes of fish from Andhra Pradesh to meet the demand. Odisha government has targeted to be self-dependent on fish production in the next three years and to achieve the export of fish products worth Rs 20,000 crore in the next four years.

Apart from this, the CM also inaugurated 12 Chilika Fresh outlets at Kharvela Nagar, Rasulgarh, Sailashree Vihar, near Sum Hospital, Dumduma, Lakshmi Sagar, Mancheswar, VSS Nagar, Khandagiri, Nakagate, Kalinga Nagar, Pokhariput and Patia, where people can get good quality fish, prawn, shrimp, lobster and dry fish.
Authorities have planned to open 14 more such outlets shortly in different localities of the city.
