Bhubaneswar: Most wanted Maoist Bhima alias Krushna Loha and his woman associate Phula Munda, surrendered before the Rourkela police on Monday.
While Bhima was carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, Phula carried Rs 1-lakh reward.
Sources said Bhima was involved in a few police-Maoist gun battles in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Boudh, Kandhamal districts of Odisha and in Jharkhand. The duo was also involved in the Mahulpada encounter with police on May 20, in which a rebel camp was destroyed by the security forces.
Bhima’s wife Sushma, also a Maoist cadre, had surrendered in 2014. The surrendered Maoists would receive financial assistance as per the rules of the State Government, said Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh
Both Lohar and Munda were involved in over 25 exchanges of fire betwwen 2015 and 2016 near Kelo , Jamdar,Kolijhar and other areas inside Odisha and also in Jharkhand Rourkela SP Anirudha Singh said
Both of them wee involved in the Mahulpada exchange of fire with the police on May 20, in which a camp was damaged by the security forces.
Lohar and Munda had joined the organisation in 2005 and 2015 respectively and all the Maoist belong to Jharkhand, Chotanagpur and Ranchi Districts
Lohar was carrying a cash award of Rs 5 lakh on his head and undergoing psychological pressure in the in the outfit after his wife, a fellow Maoist had surrendered in 2014, the SP said.
Both of them were fed up the way the party was functioning and did not want to continue as they got disillusioned singh said
According to sources, Bhima was involved in a few police-Maoist exchanges of fire in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Boudh , Kandhamal and Jharkhand.
Bhima’s wife Sushma, who is also a Maoist, had surrendered in 2014, said Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh.The Maoists would receive financial assistance as per the suggestion of the screening team, the SP added.
