Deogarh: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) today arrested former BJD MLA of Deogarh, Sanjeev Kumar Pradhan on charges of misappropriation of money meant for compensation to the villagers displaced by the Rengali dam project.
According to sources, crores of rupees were sanctioned for the villagers who lost their homes and land due to the Rengali project.
As per an EOW release, one Madhusudan Garnayak and his brother Siba Prasad had engaged Pradhan as their advocate to file a case in the Civil Court for fair and reasonable value of their acquired land. However, Pradhan misappropriated a sum of Rs 27, 01, 848 by submitting fake and forged legal heir certificates in the name of Madhusudan and Siba.
However, when the Garnayaks were awarded `27.01 lakh towards land price, the former MLA allegedly submitted fake and forged legal heir certificates in respect of both the brothers which were shown as issued by the tehsildar office. He also submitted a power of attorney which he got issued in favour of Mandakini Garnayak.
The EOW said, Pradhan misappropriated the land price awarded to the Garnayak family. In the same case, the then land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement officer of Rengali Multipurpose Project Subash Chandra Sahoo was also arrested in June 2015. The former MLA will be produced before the court of SDJM, Sambalpur on Wednesday.
