BHUBANESWAR: Odisha is headed for a spell of cold wave in the run-up to the New Year, reads the latest forecast of the Met department. With the minimum temperature at several places dropping to below 10 degrees Celsius over the last few days, the cold-wave like conditions are likely to continue till the 27th of this month, weathermen said. “The current wind pattern and cold winds blowing from the northern parts of the country have dragged down the night temperature across the state. A similar trend with minor variations in minimum temperature will continue till next week,” said the director of the regional IMD centre, Sarat Chandra Sahu.
Dense to very dense fog is very likely to prevail at many spots over east Uttar Pradesh during the period. It is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab during the period.
Moderate to dense fog is very likely to prevail at isolated areas over Bihar during the period. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at isolated portions over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and coastal Andhra Pradesh during the period.
Rain or thundershowers had occurred at a few chunks in Andaman & Nicobar Islands during past 24 hours.
Dry weather prevailed over Lakshadweep during the period. Very dense fog occurred at a few places over east Uttar Pradesh and at isolated chunks over Punjab in the morning hours of Wednesday.
Dense fog prevailed over west Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the period.
Moderate fog occurred over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and coastal Andhra Pradesh during the period.
The lowest visibility of 25 metres each was observed at Amritsar, Ambala, Bahraich and Gorakhpur, Muradabad, Bareilly, Barabanki, Dhubri, Imphal and Agartala-50 mtr each, Ludhiana, Patiala, Fursatgani, Kanpur, Patna, Bhagalpur, Baghdogra, Cooch Behar and Malda-200 mtr each and Delhi, Aligarh, Agra, Hardoi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Purnea, Halflong, Silchar, Bapatla and Nellore-500 mtr each from 0830 hours of Tuesday till 0830 hours of Wednesday.
Cold day condition was observed at isolated parts over east Uttar Pradesh. Night temperatures were markedly below normal in some spots of Odisha. They were appreciably to markedly below par in some sites of Vidarbha and in remaining slices of Telangana.
They were appreciably below norm in some areas of east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh and north interior Karnataka as well as in remaining locales of Odisha.
They were below normal in some sections of Gangetic West Bengal, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat Region, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka.
It is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab during the period.
Moderate to dense fog is very likely to prevail at isolated areas over Bihar during the period.
