Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today felicitated 29 medal winners in the Asian Athletics Championships (AAC) by distributing cash incentives to them.
While gold medallists got a cash incentive of Rs.10 lakh each, the CM felicitated each silver and bronze medal winners with a cash reward of Rs.7.5 lakh and Rs.5 lakh, respectively.
India has secured five gold medals to top the medal tally, for first time in the history of AAC and pushing China to second. Of the total 29 medals, Indian won 12 gold, five silver and 12 bronze. India not only won maximum medals in the AAC-2017 played at the Kalinga Stadium, also gave highest gold medals to the country.
Among others, state sports minister Chandra Sarathi Behera and Adille Sumariwalla, president, Athletics Federation of India were present on the occasion.
Worth mentioning, India took the top spot in the medal standings with 12 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze.
This is the best performance by Indian athletes at the Asian Championships so far. Their previous best finish was in the last edition in 2013 at Wuhan, China, where they finished third with 4 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze.
