Bhubaneswar: Oct 4 Anganwadi workers and helpers across Odisha are on strike for over three weeks to press for their demands, including regularisation of their services as class three government employees.
The Anganwadi workers and helpers association have been demanding minimum Rs 18,000 and Rs 9,000 per month respecitively. While an anganwadi workers now gets Rs 4,000 as monthly remuneration, a helper gets Rs 2,000 per month.
Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal met them today and assured them that some of their key demands would be met within a month.
The workers also alleged large scale corruption in the manufacturing and supply of ‘sattu’ to anganwadi kendras for distribution, which according them is unfit for human consumption. They also demanded strict testing of food materials supplied to anganwadi kendras.
The workers said monetary allocation for cooked food to be supplied in anganwadi kendras was abysmally low. As per government norms, eggs have to be procured for Rs.2 per piece, while the market price of eggs varies between Rs. 4 and 6 in Odisha, said an anganwadi worker Soudamini Dalabehera.
